Wanchai Ferry~Great Chinese at Home! {Review & Giveaway}

wanchaiMy husband and I are big fans of Chinese food. Unfortunately our young children are not. That is why I was excited to try a Wanchai Ferry Frozen Entree for two because it would be just enough for us adults and I could easily serve something different for my boys.

I have made plenty of different types of dinner kits so I’m familiar with the usually protocol. All items frozen inside the bag with a separate packet for sauce. Simply dump all the ingredients inside a pan with some oil, saute, cover and cook then dump in the sauce. Sometimes meat is included but more often it is not.  That is why I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my Wanchai Ferry Shrimp Lo Mein entree and found everything separated in FOUR different bags! What? I also noticed a difference from other dinner kits when I sauteed the shrimp and then removed it before cooking the vegetables and adding it back later. Hmm..I wondered why? I found my answer towards the bottom of the instructions. While you can saute them together, it will reduce the crispiness of the shrimp. Ah ha! I was also surprised that the lo mein was heated up in the microwave. I wondered how it would taste?

August 9 2009 016All I can say is WOW! This is by far the best eat at home dinner kit I’ve ever tasted. The shrimp had this awesome coating and was crispy and was not rubbery at all. The lo mein was restaurant quality in my opinion and the sauce had a wonderful flavor. Even my husband raved about it after banning me from any stir fry dinner kits a while ago because he hated the sauce and mushy veggies. He was very pleased! Our only complaint is that when they say dinner for two they really mean, dinner for two.  My portion was enough to leave me satisfied but with my husband being a runner it wasn’t quite enough for him. Next time I would serve it with a couple of egg rolls to stretch it a little further. To give you an idea of portion sizes, here is the entire dinner.

August 9 2009 017Doesn’t it look yummy? I’m definitely buying this again. I can’t imagine anyone who likes Chinese not liking these! Best of all, there is no added MSG.

They come in the following varieties:
