I love Not Me! Monday created by My Charming Kids so I’ll take this time to reflect on what I did not do this past week. Please take a moment to visit MckMama’s blog and check out what she has not been up to this past week!
While at Target last week with my two boys I didn’t discover that my womanly needs definitely needed attending to. And while in there, my three year old son didn’t sneak a peek and ask if my tampon came out of my butt. Hmm…I was not thinking it was a bit early to have that conversation.
Right before an evening wedding on Saturday, my husband and I along with two other good friends of ours, were not eating dinner at a restaurant next door to the wedding and reception when we were approached by a man. He was not stopping by multiple tables asking for money to buy medicine for his son and showing a picture. There may have been a part of me that wanted to help but an even bigger part of me realized this probably isn’t true. After finding out another person I had helped in the past was running a scam saying they lost their wallet and needed bus fare home I am more wary of the sob stories of strangers. We did not (and we really didn’t) give him anything and I didn’t see a table that did.
We didn’t run into him on the way into the wedding/reception area and get asked AGAIN only to have to say no AGAIN and then we didn’t see him hitting up arriving wedding guests. I did not snap this picture of him asking another group of people. Don’t they look surprised?
And this is not him walking away being denied, again.
I am not sitting here just hoping that it truly was just a scam because otherwise I’d just feel bad. I will give him credit for being so persistent but panhandling at a restaurant and wedding is just wrong.
And while at the reception I didn’t get a full plate of appetizers shortly after eating dinner because I was surprised at how many yummy choices. I didn’t stuff my face a second time that night just because I couldn’t resist the yummy temptations. Nope, not me!
And lastly I’m not watching my boys eat just the frosting off their donuts for breakfast. I never serve them donuts (normally I really don’t) and if I did at least I served it after a banana and yogurt. And I didn’t just encourage my oldest to eat a little more after he tried to sneak away from the table. I wouldn’t try to get my son to eat more of his donut than he wanted to. Not me! (I think it just must be habit….what was I thinking???)

Well, I guess there wouldn’t be any cops to scoot him on his merry way at a wedding, but still….
I’ve come to the point where I just don’t give cash out like that. If someone wants a donation, I ask for literature so I can send it to the headquarters. If they don’t have anything to show…it probably wasn’t legitimate to begin with.

Wow! This was really a fun post. Oh yeah? someone asking for money at a wedding reception? What was security doing? It’s not that I don’t have mercy for the poor, but I don’t think that what happened is appropriate for a wedding celebration. Thank you for this. I enjoyed reading this.
