MusiColor by Delta Creative {Review & Giveaway}

DC_Logo2

I really appreciate unique toys that make me scratch my head and wonder, “How did they do that?”. Delta Creative managed to do just that with their new MusiColor which has been nominated for Activity Toy of the Year from the TOTY Awards. It combines both art and music together in one fun activity.

Musicolor New Pkg_v4_RGB_LRMusiColor uses innovative technology to read your child’s coloring. Children simply color the pre-lined paper discs which are color coded with the correct notes.   Included are special markers with each color representing a different music note. When the discs are colored they can be placed on the music player to play songs such as I’m a Little Teapot and Jingle Bells. You can even choose between piano, violin or trumpet!

The MusiColor music player consists of a rotating base and an arm for reading the music discs, much the same as a DVD player reads a DVD. The arm scans over the colored areas of the music disc rotating on the music player, reads the color and translates it to sound.

For children that like to color outside the lines or be extra creative, you can use Musicolor’s blank song discs and create your own songs from scratch. This was by far my son’s favorite version. Being younger, these were ideal for him to have fun and confidence to complete. He loved watching the discs spin and starting and stopping the music player.  It was also great to have different sound options.

Delta My three year old is typically plenty old enough for toys that have a suggested age of 4+ as this toy has. I think that any of the picture discs would be very difficult for a four year old because of the intricate patterns. The markers are wider and some of the pictures require a very steady hand to complete them.  On Target.com the suggested age is 6 and up and in my opinion that is probably more accurate. However, the discs that allow you to create your own patterns would probably be fine for a younger child. In this way the toy would grow with them. Older children would appreciate that the patterns require more patience and skill.

There is also a beeping sound that occurs as the player tries to read notes that aren’t colored within the lines or are colored deep enough. It does take away from the song slightly but isn’t something that would keep me from purchasing this toy as a gift.

Musicolor retails for $39.99 and can be purchased from Target and Amazon.com or directly from Delta Creative. You can also buy additional MusiColor Discs and MusiColor Markers.
