My children have definitely noticed a change in the season. Suddenly it is no longer necessary to wear winter coats, we are outside so much more often and all of our snow is gone. They have loved the transition that spring has brought them so far and are very curious. National Geographic Kids has a new book entitled, Everything Spring that gives young children the perfect opportunity to learn more about the world around them in this time of rebirth!
In Jill Esbaum’s beautifully photographed picture book, young children can see, hear, and feel the warmth of springtime by reading and learning all about chicks, bunnies, and the other baby animals that come out to play in springtime. Surround yourself in Everything Spring. Stunning photography and detailed imagery capture the uplifting spirit of our favorite season in this counterpart to the National Geographic bestseller A Tree for All Seasons.
Everything Spring has become an instant favorite. Both my boys adored the animals and vivid imagery in this book. So much in fact that they were both kissing the baby animals and commenting on how cute the they were. How could you resist bunnies, fawns and ducklings?
My favorite part of this book, besides the obviously gorgeous photography, is way the author gives the reader an easy way to engage children. Within the story are auditory words such as Splish Splash!, PEEP, PEEP, PEEP and Plip-Plop-Plip as well as emphasis on certain words to make this a very interesting and fun read! I also like how changes in plants as well as animals are shown, including the metamorphosis of a tadpole into a frog. This creates the perfect opportunity to teach my children.
The recommend age range for this book is 4-8 but my two year old loves it just as much as my 3 1/2 year old. Since the story is 16 pages and doesn’t include more than a couple of lines on each page, it is the perfect length for his short attention span.
This is one book that I highly recommend and I will definitely look to get the other titles in the Picture the Seasons series. It is simply a delightful read.
BUY IT: Everything Spring retails for only $5.95 can be purchased from Amazon with free super saver shipping or from the National Geographic Store!
