Terracycle takes waste ranging from candy bar wrappers, drink pouches, old circuit boards to Aveeno lotion containers and create NEW products out of them. Not only can you make money by sending in your waste to them, you can buy sweet products in return! It also looks like this would be a great fundraiser opportunity for an organization to collect drink pouches and other materials Terracycle recycles. I am thoroughly pleased when looking at companies such as Terracycle, who are obviously committed to the environment. They really have an endless amount of products, please check out there website! Oh and PLEASE, PLEASE watch the video(s) on the site. They are simple amazing.
And if you really want to learn more about this company, check out many more TerraCycle videos on YouTube.
Once again, I’m trying not to gush, but I get terribly excited to see not only sustainable companies but sustainable products that unite communities and allow each one of us to make a step in the Greater Good of being Green! What makes me excited is that we all get to take steps, whether big or small, to take an initiative in being better citizens to this planet.
I’m going to quote part of the first video titles, “What is Garbage” from the Terracycle site.
“…It’s easy to see everything you buy as garbage because 99% of everything you buy will be in the dump in one year. But the problem with seeing everything as garbage is that before long everything, I mean everything, including the whole planet, will be trash. We’re producing billions of tons of garbage a year and the problem is just growing…And that is the big idea behind Terracycle, we don’t see garbage. We see valuable raw materials to make amazing new products that are cooler, cheaper and way more sustainable. Millions of people, top manufactures, and major retailers are joining us to trash the whole idea of garbage and SAVE THE PLANET! I hope you’ll join us too.”
How much more raw and honest can you get? Check out the TerraCycle website to see and hear more vids.
For this review I received a lunch box from juice pouches ($7.99), a tote bag made from juice pouches ($8.99) and coasters made from circuit boards ($12.99). The construction of the tote and pouches is nice and sturdy. I just love that someone else’s garbage has been given another life! I feel like I can pack my lunch and go back-to-school or grocery shop knowing I’m doing Mother Earth good!
My husband was crazy excited to see the circuit board coasters, saying “I’ve always wanted these!”, and had them out on our coffee table in a flash! Oh, aren’t men funny!
TerraCycle is also teaming up with Colgate to reuse those pesky toothpaste tubes!
TerraCycle, Inc. joins Colgate-Palmolive Company in announcing the “Colgate Brigade,” TerraCycle’s first collection program for oral care products. The Colgate Brigade represents TerraCycle’s first initiative that empowers consumers to collect and reuse oral care products and packaging on a national scale. TerraCycle’s Colgate Brigade accepts specific Colgate® products including used toothpaste tubes, certain toothbrushes and even product packaging. For every Colgate® oral care item submitted, Colgate-Palmolive will make a two-cent contribution to support the causes designated by local collection teams.

All these items and so many more, including items you’d never guess were recycled like fences and fire logs can be found on the TerraCycle website. Simply click on the Buy Now to find a retailer!

I think it’s super cool that TerraCycle is taking items that would otherwise be trashed and turning them into usable, functional items.
