If you follow this blog or my baking blog, Oh My! Sugar High you know I’m in love with my gorgeous green apple KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer. You’ve probably seen it featured as my partner in crime while I’m in my kitchen, whether I’m baking something sweet or cooking up something savory. This is an appliance that I always wondered if I would use enough to justify the cost and now I never doubt its value. My stand mixer sits on my kitchen counter and I can assure you, it does not just collect dust. I use it multiple times a week and sometimes I can’t help giving it a little squeeze, a little mixer love if you will, as I move it to my island to use. Call me sappy or plain silly but I don’t mind. There are worse things than having a love affair with a mixer.
The only thing that can make this sweet machine just that much sweeter is some of the amazing attachments that are available for your stand mixer. You can make plenty of homemade products from pasta to sausage to ice cream, all with an attachment and your mixer doing the heavy duty work for you. And you thought your stand mixer was only for baking. Ha!
I’ve been playing around with the KitchenAid Rotor Slicer and Shredder attachment. It comes with four different cones, two for slicing and two for shredding with varying thickness.
At first I was a bit nervous working with it, wondering if perhaps I might injure myself in the process. But I quickly learned that by reading the instructions to feel comfortable first and always putting safety first by unplugging the unit before touching the cones, it really is quite simple and safe to use.
Over the course of the summer I used this machine to shred various firm fruits, vegetables and cheeses. Once we got it set up sometimes it is hard to stop. When we shredded cheese it breezed through it so fast that large brick was almost gone before we knew it! This would be fantastic for those of you (like us) who prefer freshly grated cheese from a block versus purchasing pre-shredded. It also is great to feed crowd!
I shredded a lot and I do mean a lot of zucchini with this bad boy. I tried both fine shredding and coarsely grated, both of which worked great for baking. To slice or shred, simply cut the fruit, vegetables or cheese into sections, lift the handles of the food pusher and place food in the hopper. Set the mixer setting to 4 and push down on the food pusher handles.
You may remember my monster zucchini post and I can’t even imagine trying to process this much zucchini by hand!
Removing the cones and cleaning the unit is quite simple once you learn how. After unplugging the mixer, take a cloth to protect your hands for slippage and twist the cone.
Place the end of the cone in the handy square at the top of the attachment and twist.
Viola! The attachment is now apart and ready to be cleaned!
Now that it is getting cooler I am so excited to try this out for Au gratin potatoes! This summer we sliced some red potatoes up to put on the grill.
Yummy! Typically we would chop potatoes for grilling the but slices were such a nice change of pace. Now we can slice them ourselves instead of having to purchase pre-sliced potatoes. Having something to create such even slices quickly is simply awesome.
Check out the Rotor Slicer and Shredder Video Demo to learn more!
The Rotor Slicer and Shredder is only one of many KitchenAid attachments available. There are many others I’m drooling over such as the pasta and ravioli makers. We love pasta in this family and I’m already imagining all the different types of homemade pasta, just begging me to make them. And how could I possibly forget the ice cream maker attachment? My sweet tooth is aching just thinking of homemade ice cream.
Buy it:
The KitchenAid Rotor Slicer and Shredder retails for $64.99. This attachment and more can be purchased directly from KitchenAid, Amazon or look for them at major retailers nationwide!
AND NOW THE BEST PART…

I’d love to try the rotor slicer and shredder. I cook for 10 people every night and this would save me so much time and energy (me) if I had this.

OOh! I so want the pasta press! We eat SO much pasta in the house. But we never tried to make it before! And I bet with that neat press the whole family would want to help!! BTW- AWESOME GIVEAWAY!
thank you , great article
I am torn! I would have to play a gae of eenie meenie miny moe to pick between the pasta maker and the ice cream maker. Both of those are things that i am very interested in making but have yet to try! I saw a recipe for salted caramel and candied bacon ice cream that is calling pretty hard, though, so I may have a slight leaning
