When putting together the nursery of my firstborn son Lucian, I agonized over the curtains. It always seemed like such an easy thing to pick out, that is, until I was trying to find thick curtains that blocked out light, sound and kept away drafts in a bright yellow. It was impossible. I found a ton of colorful options in sheers which wasn’t what I wanted. I searched for months and didn’t find anything that didn’t suggest they belonged in a dining room or living room. Anything but a bright and colorful nursery. I settled simply because my son was a few months old and still had blankets on his bedroom windows because of my indecision.
When LightCatcher Curtains was introduced to me I had a moment of glee. Finally! Someone had seen a gap in the curtain market for children and knew exactly what mothers were looking for. What makes them different? They contain INSULDARK technology.
The revolutionary light, thermal and sound control is achieved through careful fabric construction and a particular technique of triple layer protection: LightCatcher’s own INSULDARK technology. It’s the engineering and style behind LightCatcher’s standard of comfort and control. While traditional room darkening curtains have stiff, unattractive foam backing, LightCatcher curtains feel as a curtain should feel — like soft fabric. The trick is in starting with a beautiful design and then bringing technical properties to the curtain through the lining, ultimately achieving the INSULDARK standard.
I know it is hard to tell the difference with these pictures but I can tell you that they were snapped within minutes of each other on a sunny afternoon. On the left you have my yellow Pottery Barn curtains that while beautiful, do little to block light or retain warmth. To the right is our new Solid Chocolate Brown LightCatcher Curtains.

It is so hard to tell the true difference because the room became so dark that my flash ruined the shot, as shown below. When I didn’t use my flash it was underexposed from lack of light. (Not a bad problem to have).
This is exactly how they look out of the packaging. I didn’t even iron them *gasp*. Aren’t they beautiful?
I’m in love with the plush fabric and soft backing of these curtains. The panels come in 63″ or 84″ and are amazingly 54″ wide to keep the light out and have a luxurious look. Studies have shown these wider widths will help with energy costs and dampen sound 1.5 times of traditional curtains which are only 40″-42″. I’m thrilled to have a curtain that looks so good in my son’s room that does what I always wanted a curtain to do. I only wish I had discovered them sooner.
How many of you, like me, have children who rise with the sun and have a hard time taking a nap during the day if it is sunny? My son Lucian’s bedroom gets an amazing amount of light in the afternoon, just when I would put him down for a nap. I noticed that on overcast days he would fall asleep easier and sleep longer. For a while I had blankets over his windows but that always looked horrible. That is not a problem for me anymore. And I’ll freely admit, it leaves me a little giddy.
