My four year old son Lucian is absolutely obsessed with trains. He really loves all modes of transportation but trains are his favorite so I figured he would enjoy The Little Engine That Could really no matter how good it actually was. And I was pleasantly entertained myself as my husband and I watched it with our two little boys. It was the perfect Friday night family movie complete with popcorn and cuddling on the the couch.
“I think I can, I think I can…” The timeless story comes to life in this all-new, feature-length film filled with fun and adventure! When Little Engine (Alyson Stoner, Cheaper by the Dozen) must leave Dreamland to deliver toys into the real world, she sets her fears aside and learns that with a little determination and courage, anything is possible. Featuring an all-star cast, including Whoopi Goldberg (The View), Jamie Lee Curtis (Freaky Friday), Corbin Bleu (High School Musical) and Brenda Song (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody), this “fun family film” (Francine Brokaw, Los Angeles Family Magazine) is one you’ll enjoy again and again.
While this movie is mostly set in Dreamland, the main character is dealing with a bully in the real world and just like the theme within dreamland itself, it is important to overcome those fears in order to do what is right. The Little Engine is small and often underestimated by almost everyone around her but her positive thinking gives her the confidence to do what she didn’t know she actually could. With likable characters and a star studded cast, this is a great addition to our DVD library.
The only thing that my son Lucian didn’t care for in the movie was the Nightmare Train. While the Nightmare Train is mean and really rather scary, eventually the Little Engine is able to knock him off his tracks which in essence means he can’t deliver bad dreams anymore. Despite knowing this, Lucian still finds the parts with him in it scary. Just something to note if you have a child who is easily scared. However, it is a great opportunity to help a child who is currently suffering from bad dreams. My three year old son however wasn’t phased by this character so you really never can tell!
Universal partnered with the Starlight Children’s Foundation which works to improve the quality of life for children with chronic and life threatening illness life altering injuries, on The Little Engine That Could release and will donate up to 50 cents per DVD sold.
