Chocolate Chip Waffles Recipe from KitchenAid {Spring Brunch Series}

Making amazing waffles is actually quite easy when you are equipped with a fabulous recipe and a KitchenAid Waffle Baker. I know, I’m one lucky gal. I’ve made these twice and each time I’m reminded that these waffles are both decadent and very filling but so easy to make! I’m always willing to share a good recipe and this one is begging for me to share it will all of you.

Chocolate Chip Waffles with Chocolate Whipped Cream

(makes 4 large waffles)

Waffle Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, if desired

1 2/3 cups milk

1/3 cup butter or margarine, melted

2 eggs

Whipped Cream Ingredients

1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

1 tablespoon powdered sugar

1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa

Directions

Chill mixing bowl for whipped cream. Place it  in the freezer for a few minutes if you are short on time. Add heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and unsweetened cocoa to chilled bowl.

With wire whip attachment, whip ingredients, gradually turn to speed 10 and continuing until stiff peaks form. This will take a few minutes. Cover and refrigerate until read to serve.
Preheat waffle baker. Combine flour, chocolate chips, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt and cinnamon if desired. (We found the cinnamon flavor to be subtle and it added a nice flavor to the waffles.)

Add milk, melted butter and eggs to dry ingredients and mix just until moistened. A few lumps may remain. I recommend adding the milk before the butter or you may melt some of the chocolate chips if the butter is still hot.
Set waffle baker timer to 3 minutes and 45 seconds. Add one cup of batter and spread a bit into top side of baker.
Close top, start timer and rotate baker. Fill second side of baker and rotate again. (For the record, baking two waffles at the same time is awesome!)
When signal sounds, remove waffle with non metal utensil and transfer to wire rack until ready to serve. I found a smaller silicone spatula worked well and placing the wire rack right next to the baker made for easy transfer. Flip baker over to remove second waffle and repeat.

Serve with chocolate whipped cream if desired. While it does make for a beautiful presentation, my family felt that the waffles themselves were sweet on their own and the chocolate whipped cream wasn’t necessary. It made it a bit too rich for us but it was delicious nonetheless!

It has been a few months since I’ve made a waffle and these look so good! I’ve been thinking a lot about what to get my mom for Mother’s Day and I know how much she just loves Belgian waffles so I think I’m gonna order this waffle maker for her.

You would be one amazing daughter if you did. Actually my Dad was feeling my mom out after Easter brunch to find out if she’d want one now that she’d seen it in action and tasted the waffles. I think he was hinting at Mother’s Day. Of course her answer was YES! :)

  2. 3

These remind me of the waffle maker I grew up with. Round, fluffy and oh so yummy! YUM! The new square small ones don’t do waffles justice!

  3. 4

YUMMMMMM!!!! Not fair posting these, and I’m on a diet :(

The chocolate whipped topping is such a simple but GOOD idea. I’ve made pancakes from scratch several times, but never waffles. These looks like a no fail. Thanks for the recipe!

You know what this waffle needs as a side? Baked bacon! Ever since I discovered that you can bake bacon, my family eats a lot more of it! Just put your slices on a rack in a sheet pan, and bake at 350 for about 15 minutes!! No popping fat, no shrinkage…just lots and lots of beautiful bacon!
I would love this waffler – and I guarantee we’d have bacon with it!

We don’t have a waffle maker, not because we don’t want one or think we wouldn’t use one, it’s one of those things we just don’t think about until we go ‘oh yeah, waffles…yum! we need to get a waffle maker!’ and then 7 months go by until the next “oh yeah’ moment :-/ Now that I have this image in my head of CHOCOLATE CHIP waffles (YUM!), I may just remember it next time I’m at a department store.
