Books are one gift I don’t mind splurging on and are always a gift that my boys love to receive! It seems that no matter how many books we get we always want more. Whether that be because my boys see a new book that sparks their interest or I as the reader are getting desperate for some materials, it seems I’m always buying books for our collection.
What I don’t like however, is picking out books without reading or at least scanning them first. It makes it hard to pick out a gift for someone without having that opportunity. Little One Books takes all that guesswork out for you. All books, music and videos found on their site has been carefully selected and categorized by the youngest appropriate age from birth to age five so you can easily and quickly find something perfect! One of my very favorite features is the “why we chose this” section found within the product description. This gives you a detailed look at the product itself and what children thought of the product.
For even easier gift giving, Little One Books offers gift bundles which follow a specific theme. Also sorted by age group, these bundles include gift wrapping with a festive ribbon and notecard.

Recently I threw my boys a spring shower party to have fun on a rainy day that otherwise would have been a rather boring day. They absolutely loved it. Watch for a post coming soon with ways in which to throw your own spring shower party with minimal effort and the use of books to follow the theme! One of the books used for our party was Thunder-Boomer by Shutta Crum.
It’s a hot day on the farm, and a little girl, her brother, and their mother are trying to cool off by the pond. Suddenly, dark clouds roll in. A thunder-boomer is on the way The storm brings pounding rain and hail – and an unexpected visitor: a soggy wet stray kitten. Colorful descriptions of the storm are accompanied by lots of playful sound effects, making this free-verse poem perfect for reading aloud. Charming watercolor illustrations capture all the drama, humor, and tenderness of the text.
Thunder-Boomer was a very entertaining read. With lots of fun words included to create some silly sound effects, it allowed me as the parent to really get into the telling of the story. And my boys simply loved that the storyline included Dad’s underwear blowing off the clothesline and then showing up again later in the book! My four year old Lucian especially loved that a dog and kitten were characters as he is a huge animal lover.
This book really grabbed both my boys attention, especially once we got to the part about underwear which produced many giggles. Lucian even asked immediately after we read it if he could see it again and browse the pictures.
Also perfect for our spring theme party was The Green Grass Grew All Around by Phil Rosenthal and family.
Phil Rosenthal and his family perform old and new folk songs in this Parent’s Choice Honors and best-selling album. Instruments featured on this recording include banjo, mandolin, guitar, bass, trumpet, flute, dobro, harmonica, congas, and a samba drum.
This was a perfect choice that made for some fun entertainment. Besides deciding that green grass growing all around meant the boys should chase each other in a circle and dance, there also includes a song about trains. Lucian was sold as soon as he heard that one! I loved that it wasn’t in the least bit annoying! Bonus.
BUY IT
Thunder-Boomer is available in hardcover for $16 while The Green Grass Grew All Around is $15. Gift Bundles range between $29.98 and $49.95.
One of my lucky readers will win a $30 gift certificate to Little One Books!
