Decadent Dove Chocolate Discoveries {Review & Giveaway} CLOSED

Chocolate. It seems like that word should be a sentence in and of itself. Just saying the word out loud makes me want to find some…right now. Some may call it an addiction but both my husband and I have a difficult time when there isn’t any chocolate in the house.  The craving can be strong and even just a small amount can be enough to curb the need. However, as I’ve aged I’ve learned that not all chocolate is created equal and the little squares of smooth Dove chocolate are really a favorite! (Who doesn’t love those little words of wisdom on the back of the wrapper?)

But I just recently learned that Dove has taken our love of chocolate and turned it into a home based business opportunity with Dove Chocolate Discoveries. Like other direct selling party businesses, Dove Chocolatiers bring the chocolate to a host’s home in order to give everyone a sampling of the supreme chocolate products available. And Dove Chocolate Discoveries recently sent me their starter kit to give me a close up look at both the business opportunity and the products themselves.

We had out of town guests stay with us a little over a week ago, just as I had received my kit in the mail. It was the perfect time to test some of the products out since they certainly cater to a party atmosphere. Since I can’t drink due to my pregnancy, my friend Nicole was more than willing to try out the Chocolate Martini mix ($20). The mix looked so appealing that I mixed mine with milk instead of vodka to at least get an idea of what I was missing. Wow, it certainly packs a lot of chocolate punch! While it tasted wonderful, it was a very sweet drink and probably one I could never have more than one or two at a time. But it was a cinch to prepare and would be a great addition to any party!

We also had to try out the chocolate fondue. The heart shaped fondue set came with the starter kit and made for a beautiful presentation. But what really stole the show was the melted Chef Series Milk Chocolate.

This chocolate fondue was like none I had ever experienced. It was so smooth, so creamy and so rich that it was hard to stop eating. We dipped pretzels, marshmallows, apples and strawberries into the warm chocolate and well, sighed.

The kids loved the idea of dipping and everything went really fast. So fast that I only got a few items dipped myself because I was so busy trying to capture the moment. (Yes, Warren did stab a pretzel stick with his fondue fork for dipping.)

This was a super fun activity for the kids and a fun way to socialize. Next time I’d like to try some of the other fondue recipes, most of which call for whipping cream to be added to the chocolate. It isn’t a must have but I think it would make the fondue a bit smoother and stretch it a father so we have more dipping! It started to clump at the end, even with our lit candle but it didn’t hurt the taste.

My husband and I are huge fans of chai lattes and rarely are we out of fresh chai in our house. So it came as no surprise we loved the Chocolate Spiced Chai Tea Mix ($15 or $22). It blends two of my very favorite things: chai and hot chocolate! The results are smooth and a bit sinful. I love how the mix blends easily into the hot water with just a couple stirs of the spoon . No powder residue with this mix! It is also available in vanilla, raspberry, and spice varieties!

And if this isn’t a testimate to our love of chocolate, within a week our box of Chocolate Covered Cashews and Almonds ($20) are gone. Completely. A single box comes with two bags, one of which is shown above.  My husband really went nuts for these, literally, and couldn’t keep his hands off! The box is 75% milk chocolate cashews and 25% dark chocolate almonds. And while I typically don’t reach for dark chocolate, the Dove dark chocolate is something special.

Dove Chocolate Discoveries Business Opportunity

So what do I think of this starter kit I received and the business opportunity within? Having sold with my own direct selling business in the past, I feel this is a great opportunity for someone looking to make some extra money and have flexibility. The percentage of sales and sheer ease of selling high quality chocolate make this a good choice. And because the product is consumable, you have a higher chance of many repeat customers who can’t get enough of the product. With Christmas coming up and the potential of hard to buy for people on holiday shopping lists, this is a great time to start your business.

What concerns me about the opportunity is that it is a consumable product. One that requires that you have product available in which guests can sample at every party so it isn’t a one time expense. The other downfall is that while this chocolate is good, I mean, really, really, good, that does come with a price. These products are not cheap and with a slower economy it might be harder to sell a higher end product after the holiday shopping season. (Keep in mind, however I have never sold this product and this is simply a judgment on my part.)

As with all opportunities, it is best to weigh all the pros and cons and see if being a Dove Chocolatier is the right move for you. Quality chocolate is certainly a product that makes it easy to be passionate and in my experience passion for the product is the number one factor in anything you are selling.

How would you like the opportunity to try out this same Dove Chocolate Discoveries starter kit, valued at over $200? Whether you are considering the business opportunity or just love chocolate and want to try the products yourself, this is a great prize! (Keep in mind that you are NOT automatically signed up to sell these products by winning this kit.)
