The days of small receiving and swaddling blankets are over. They have been replaced by some amazing options that offer generous wrapping of our babes and aden + anais is at the forefront with their soft swaddlers in modern and classic prints! To see these blankets up close, I chose the Mod about Baby 4 pack from the classic collection. Since I’m still in the dark about the gender of my new baby I thought something neutral would be best. But what I didn’t expect to find was so many fabulous options that didn’t make me feel like I was giving anything up by not being able to pick something gender specific!
They aren’t kidding when they say these are generously sized. I can’t believe the size of these blankets! Swaddling will be even easier and I know I’ll use them for so much more than that. And since I now have four of them, they can be a staple in our nursery.
The cotton muslin is soft but becomes even softer as you wash them over time. The open weave may seem thinner but that is intentional to keep the fabric breathable and make it easier for your baby to regulate their body temperature. No one wants their poor baby to overheat!
The prints themselves from this set are simply irresistible. How can I not smile with these little guys looking at me?
Last month was National SIDS Awareness Month and aden and anais donated a percentage of their profits to the CJ Foundation’s “Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style” campaign during October. The act of swaddling, which dates back to ancient times, helps babies sleep more peacefully and also helps prevent spontaneous movements, which may indirectly help prevent SIDS.
The CJ Foundation’s Baby Sleep Safety Tips
(include but aren’t limited to…)
· Always lay your baby to sleep face up: Side and tummy positions are not safe; check with your doctor if your baby has breathing problems.
· Remove all loose bedding, stuffed animals, bumpers and pillows from crib: Consider using a wearable blanket or other type of sleepsack instead of using a blanket.Sleeping bags are recommended in place of loose blankets. Breathable swaddles and sleeping bags are best and available through aden + anais.
· Don’t let your baby get too hot: Overheating is a leading risk factor for SIDS. Dress your baby in as much or as little as you would wear. If your baby is sweating, has damp hair, or a heat rash, he or she may be too hot. aden + anais is world-renowned for its breathable muslin cotton products, which come in stylish, original prints that combine safety with style.
· Control room temperature where baby is sleeping: The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult. This would be approximately 61-67 degrees Fahrenheit.
· Consider using a fan to increase air circulation in baby’s room: Room fans have been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS.
· Lay your baby to sleep in an approved crib, on a firm-fitting mattress: Do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad, or waterbed. Crib bumpers are not recommended and can be hazardous.
· Don’t smoke while pregnant and never smoke near your infant: While pregnant or considering pregnancy do not smoke. Never let others smoke near your baby. Smoking is a major risk factor for SIDS.
