A Wine Tasting Adventure with The California Wine Club

The California Wine Club made me and my husband two very happy people this past month when they shipped us two bottles of wine to try out their wine club firsthand. While I would never call us wine experts, we do enjoy attending tastings and trying out different varieties. And if there is one thing I know for sure, we know what we like!

If you follow me on instagram or twitter you might have seen me post about my excitement when these two bottles arrived on our doorstep. I was very pleased by how well the bottles were packaged and since my husband and I like both red and white wine, we liked that we had a bottle of each.

All I can say about the red wine, a 2009 Robledo Tempranillo from Napa Valley was that this variety is simply amazing. And I really  mean, amazing.  Both of us couldn’t stop raving about it.  It was the perfect blend, not being too sweet or too dry for us. We loved the body and the finish.

While I limited myself to one glass because I’m nursing, my husband couldn’t stop himself from polishing off the rest of the bottle. He has already been to our nearby liquor store to see if he could purchase another bottle but unfortunately they didn’t carry it.  One member benefit is the ability to re-order your favorites from The California Wine Club.

On another occasion we also thoroughly enjoyed the white variety as well, a Sauvignon Blanc, also from Robledo. It had a strong, crisp flavor. And even though we tend to prefer red wine over white, this one surprised us as as well. I tend to go for a Riesling and don’t venture off too much in my white wines. I really liked this one!

Now I get it.

I understand what club owners Bruce and Pam Boring mean when they say that they’ve searched high and low in California’s wine country for limited-production wines from small, family-owned wineries dedicated to the art of making fine wine.

Did you know?

More than three-quarters of California’s 3,500+ wineries are small, boutique, mom-and-pop operations whose wines never travel beyond their local markets and private customer lists.

That really is a shame, isn’t it? How would you like the opportunity to try out some of these lesser known wines and make some new discoveries? Perhaps someone on your holiday gift list would appreciate this opportunity as well!

Now im in FL and I’ll definitely be hinting this gift for christmas:) thanks for sharing (so excited that if I don’t get this for christmas, I’ll be signing up myself )
