Do your kids love to build? I think most are familiar with Legos, Duplos, Lincoln Logs and all of the block brands we grew up with as kids. Have you heard of Bionic Blox?
I think my husband was more excited about this one than I was but that makes sense, he’s an engineer. His head works this way! I’ve quickly discovered that although my daughter is very much a creative spirit she also has the love of building and constructing like her daddy does. I can’t wait to see where that little mind will take her some day.
Bionic Blox have a simple combination of sturdy wooden pieces and plastic pieces called BionicStar Connectors.
The wooden pieces and plastic connectors fit together snugly in a completely different way than the blocks I grew up with.
- Perfect For Children of All Ages
Build and adjust creations with easy to move BionicStar connectors and perfect sized blocks for both simple and complex structures.- Mimic Real World Building
Creations can match real world structures like houses and skyscrapers incorporating geometry, physics and spatial awareness.- Safe, Fun, Educational
These are our priorities. BionicBlox provides an outlet for kids to put down the iPod and spend hours filled learning geometry, fractions and imagination.- Fun For All Ages
Build and play with your children, help them bring their idea to life.- A Toy That Grows With Your Child
No matter how old or young your child is, BionicBlox is just right. Your three year old can build a simple doll house, while your 12 year old can build a space ship.- Environmentally Friendly
BionicBlox have been made with as little environmental impact as possible. From the wooden blocks, to the reusable minimal packaging we reduce waste and provide the greatest value to parents.
They include a page with some basic ideas as well as more advanced structures. Nora is obsessed with maps right now so she was very excited about this card and quickly decided which structures she wanted to make.
We started with a simple circle form and she did a pretty good job helping construct this one. I love how it stands alone with only a few pieces.
She was so excited when she saw the form coming together and made quick work of connecting the ends together.
Our completed form!
We moved on to a more advanced tower. This one took a lot more of my help (an insistence that yes, I needed to look at the instructions more than once!) Her little hands weren’t quiet strong enough to build beyond the first level b/c you had to balance the structure while trying to push the connectors on. She got frustrated. So I looked ahead and had her build small sections at a time and put them together as we went.
Sure enough the tower came together pretty quickly too. Nora thought it would be fun to put the two together which looked pretty darn cool! Of course you can’t stop with the building. My daughter took off to her room and came back with her bin of Little People. This was only the start of her play time as it inspired an entire day of pretending with her creation. Her structure became a circus tent, a swimming pool with diving board, and a barn (with rooster on a high perch!)
Bionic Blox is currently hosting a facebook promotion. I entered the photo above under the innovation category for a chance to Build to Win $50 or some free Bionic Blox. You can enter too. Hurry, winners are awarded Feb 1, 2013!
Post – on the BionicBlox Facebook page – your picture with your creation and a little description (who you are, what it is, what help you had, your goals and lessons) to enter to win in one of 3 categories for $50 BionicBlox credit in EACH category. Winners will be awarded Feb 1, 2013. We take into consideration the age if listed. We will also award FREE BionicStar Connectors to 2 runner-ups in each category.
- Architecture / Structure- You know, a cool building. This category is focused on creativity in design of a structure.
- Engineering -Build something that represents engineering or engineering concepts. Be sure to describe the “what and why” of your creation.
- Innovation- This is where you can go nuts. Create something new and innovative. It does not have to be a building!
HINT: You CAN use other materials in addition to the BionicBlox, BUT BionicBlox must be structurally and visually central to the creation. We want you to use what you need to express yourselves.
The only thing I was bummed about was how easily the bag ripped. My husband said that it didn’t have a hole in it when he opened it which means it happened the very first time my daughter opened them. They have sturdy blocks but they could increase the quality of packaging.
