My husband and I typically use the refrigerator to keep track of notes and grocery lists. I email him important reminders at work but rarely hear back. I’ve wondered how we could improve our communication skills and with my iPhone in hand I now have a new tool to do just that! Meet Twyxt, a new social media app made for couples, just in time for valentine’s day! Twyxt helps couples share photos, lists and messages in a more private way. Of course this doesn’t replace face-to-face contact and communication but I hope it can help share important information or just add a bit of humor to the day.
I’ll admit that I’m new to the smart phone experience apart from watching my 3-year old use it with ease. Ok, VERY new. As in I just got my new iPhone 4S last week. I live on my MacBook Pro and work from home so I haven’t seen the financial need to upgrade to smart technology but now that I have it I can easily see the benefits. Among those benefits are custom social apps such as this.
Twyxt allows you to share important information with the love of your life. You can set calendar dates and information, make lists of anything you can dream of, and message them directly using fun emoticons as well as a function that lets you send an urgent message directly to their email.
You can look at your calendar in several formats (month, day, list) and make a visual note of whether the event is for just you or both of you (US) for quick reference. A red square is noted on the days that you have an event. You can even set up event reminders! My husband quickly added some personal events on our shared calendar. Want to know what they were? Too bad! It’s a personal calendar for just the two of us remember! I was glad to see he was willing to use it though as I wasn’t sure this would be his sort of thing.
You can set a personal picture or use their icon when sending messages and they have some nice emoticons that make communication fun and flirty. For the times when conversation might get heated they have a fun “freeze” function (only an option while both using the app) that puts a hold on the conversation, giving you time to “cool off”.
About Twyxt
Twyxt was born when Co-Founder Roman Weishaupl noticed his (now former) girlfriend kept an ongoing journal of their text messages. The need for a dedicated digital space for couples (and a couple long distance relationships) inspired the four founders: Bianca, Roman, Kalai and Tyson to create Twyxt…
“Twyxt is a private, intimate and useful app for capturing and celebrating a couples shared life together” said Tyson Verstraete, Life Of Two Co-Founder and CEO. “Twyxt cuts through the social noise so couples can focus on the story they are writing together about their most important relationship.”
There are a lot of practical uses for the list function such as grocery shopping. Often times my husband will pick up groceries on the way home from work but we might have run out of certain critical items during the day. If we had a shared list I could easily add to it without a hassle. You can easily add, delete, or check off items from lists and they provide a list with directions on how to easily do that. I made this quick “To do” list of important things top on my list. They have one suggested list idea which includes things such as your shoe size, ring size, or ANY other size you might think necessary for future gift buying needs. Maybe you want an instant reminder of important dates in your relationship? Perhaps your spouse needs ideas for future gift giving! See the potential here? Unfortunately my app had a glitch the first day I used it and the list screen wouldn’t load (see above) but the next day it was working fine again. Glitch? That said the tech team at Twyxt was there and willing to help when I contacted them.
Could Use Improvement:
Although most of the functions of this app are practical or fun there are some areas that could use improvement. Once you create an event you are allowed to edit it but you can’t change who the event is for. Example: If I create an event for me and later decide that I want my husband to also attend, I’m not able to go and edit that section of the event. You can’t delete photos. It’d be great to be able to sync specific events that are already on my phone calendar without entering the info over again while still being able to use the Twyxt calendar for only those things I want shared with my husband. What about the young couples that have a break-up? I emailed Twyxt about these concerns and here is their prompt response:
Can you delete pictures once they’re in the app?At the moment you can’t, but on one of the very next updates we will enable to completely delete photos. Can you import/export from/to another calendar such as google or mac? Here as well… we are a very young start-up and our app does not support calendar integration yet.But we are already working on the ability to sync it with your phones calendar to select events you want synced. Our research has shown that not many couples want a full sync only with slected events.I’m married – but what if someone breaks up with their twyxt person? Can they keep the app and connect to someone new? If so what happens to all of the images and content? There are a couple of scenarios for when you break up:
- At the moment all content is stored to an account tied to an email address. If you have a new partner you can use a new email address, this would enable you to keep all old data and start the new data with the new email address.
- If both users want, we can completely delete and erase all data from Twyxt.
- All data belongs to the user. If the user wants its data stored out of twyxt, we will be able to provide this in the near future. If both user want to delete all data we will do this.
In the future we will enable to keep past relationships under one account if wanted (we think here especially about the younger generations). We will let the users decide about the details of all braking up issues. We are aware of dealing with intimate data so we will deal with this accordingly.
If you need some help with communication and a little added fun with your special valentine, try out Twyxt. Maybe it will be just the fun spark you need in your relationship. Just remember to take things beyond your smart phone and into real life in the end!

This might come in handy when I need to make a list for my husband at the grocery store!
This would be great for me to be able to keep up with my husband’s crazy schedule!
I like playing with new apps, this one would be a good one to try out.
Sounds like a great app – wish it was available on Android.
This is pretty cool! We always joke about how much we use our iphones to “sync” our lives…this would make it even better.
