When I had my first baby Danica six years ago I was a full time working mom. I knew I wanted to breast feed if possible and I knew that meant a good breast pump would be a necessity. I bought an expensive pump and learned how to use it. With my next 3 babies I was a stay at home mom, but I knew I wanted to continue to pump some as well as nurse for several reasons. I wanted to keep my supply up, I wanted to try to get extra milk into the freezer for when my supply dwindles, and I wanted my husband and children to be able to feed the baby bottles at times so they could bond (and I could get away occasionally). My initial pump has been through a lot so I decided it was time to try another. I am extremely happy with my new Lansinoh Affinity Pro Double Electric Breast Pump.
This revolutionary new compact, light weight pump is the most advanced breast pump ever created for moms and the first breast pump to offer moms three pumping levels, helping them maximize milk flow, increase comfort and enhance overall breastfeeding success. The Affinity Pro brings the effectiveness of a premium pump to more moms with an affordable suggested retail price of $129.99.
There are many features about this pump that I preferred over my old pump, the first was its compact light weight design. My old pump was bulky with a large case, this one is so tiny and lightweight. The pump runs on electric or battery and I love that it has compartment for batteries built in (not an external battery pack like my old one).
Some of the other great features are:
- Three customizable pumping styles allow you to maximize milk production and comfort
- Adjustable cycle and suction allows for ultimate customization and comfort
- Hygienically designed to guarantee that no milk backs up in tubing
- LCD screen with timer helps you keep track of time
- Includes carry tote for on-the-go convenience
- Compatible with any hands-free bra for multi-tasking
- ComfortFit™ Flanges ensure a comfortable, proper fit
- Bottle holders prevent spills and protect precious milk
- Large flanges and other accessories available through lansinohstore.com
- BPA free
The ComfortFit Flanges are definitely softer and more comfortable than my previous pump. They had a very natural fit making pumping a better experience.
The design of the pump flange body is much better than my previous brand pump. The milk definitely does not back up into the tubing and does not spill like it would in my old pump if tipped over. The flange body is also much easier to clean with less little crevices (I used to have to clean my old one with pipe cleaners if I didn’t get it rinsed out right away).
There is a 2 minute cycle when you first turn the pump on to stimulate milk let down. I found this to be a little unnecessary for me, but you can skip this step. You can then choose from three pumping rhythms and eight suction levels. I often turn mine up to a fairly high suction level and I found the suction in the pump to work very effectively. I also like that you can choose to only pump one breast if desired.
The LCD screen with timer is a nice feature. I have never really timed my pumping before so it is interesting to see how long it takes and have an idea of how long it normally takes.
1 Lansinoh® Affinity Pro™ Double Electric Breast Pump base unit, 2 bottles (5 oz). 2 breast flange bodies, 2 container rings, 2set diaphragms, 2 sealing disks, 2 ComfortFit™ flanges (25 mm), 2 white valves (2 extra), 2 bottle stands, 3 connection tubes, 1 tubing strap for tubing, 1 Y Tubing Connector, 1 Pump Connector, AC Connector, 1 tote bag, 2 Milk Storage Bags, 2 Nursing pads, HPA® Lanolin Sample, & instruction booklet with everything you need to know to get started.
There were a couple of things I didn’t love about the pump, but they certainly would not stop me from buying it.
- It only came with 2 bottles, you can buy more and the flanges do fit many standard bottle sizes, but it is a bit of an annoyance as I often have some in the refrigerator when I need them.
- Every time I go to screw the flange off the bottle I accidentally unscrew the diaphragm cap instead.
- The white valves do not fit very tight and I have a tendency to accidentally knock them off when putting the pump together or taking apart.
Again, none of these issues would stop me from buying the pump, I am extremely pleased with it.
I am a huge fan of Lansinoh products. I will only use their milk storage bags as they are the only ones I have used that do not leak. I also love their HPA® Lanolin which is great for sore nipples from breastfeeding and works great for sensitive baby butts to prevent buttrash. The Affinity Pro Breast Pump is another great Lansinoh product to add to my list!
The Lansinoh Affinity Pro has an affordable suggested retail price of $129.99 and is available at stores nationwide including Target, Babies R Us and Walmart, and online at diapers.com and drugstore.com.
