Nursing Comfortably with Born Free Bliss Feeding Pillow {Review}

logo-born-free I am happy to say that I am now breastfeeding my fourth baby.  It can definitely be a challenge to get established breastfeeding (especially when baby doesn’t want to cooperate like my first one), so I have found it very important to make sure it is a comfortable experience for myself and baby.  I was excited this time around to try the new Born Free Bliss Feeding Pillow ($59.99) and see how it compared to what I have used in the past.

I was immediately drawn to the Born Free Bliss Pillow as it looked like it would work really well when feeding the baby sitting in bed.  I don’t do it often, but sometimes I will sit on the bed and feed the baby and I have always found it hard to find a comfortable position to do so.  It is hard to get regular pillows stacked up just right to make it work.  I have always used a Boppy pillow for my previous babies, but it never quite worked right for me without another pillow or armrest beside me.  The Bliss pillow worked perfectly for feeding on the bed or on a couch or chair without an armrest.

The Bliss pillow has 3 stages allowing you to customize it to the needs of you and your baby

  •  At the first stage, mom uses the Feeding Pillow, Nurture Boost, and a newborn mat—this slightly firmer surface helps baby stay awake while feeding.
  • For the second stage, mom uses the Feeding Pillow and Nurture Boost—a small pillow that allows you to give baby just that perfect incline for feeding. And even better: it can be used on the left or right to accommodate your feeding needs.
  • By the third stage, growing babies can use the Feeding Pillow on its own. This contoured pillow offers the comfort of just-right height for mom and baby during feeding. Born free Bliss feeding pillow5

I found that with all three stages together the pillow was a little high for me.  I have a shorter torso and the baby was a little high.  I do like the firmness of the Newborn Mat and my six year old actually likes to use that part on her lap when she is holding the baby.

I loved the second stage of using the the pillow with the Feeding Pillow and Nurture Boost.  The Nurture Boost made it perfect to use without an armrest and made the pillow the perfect height.

What I loved about the pillow in general is that it made it easy to have baby on my lap, but still have my arms/hands free as I did not feel like I have to keep one arm under baby at all times.  This is a life-saver for me right now as I constantly need free hands to help the other kids with things even while I am feeding.  I also liked that the pillow contoured to my body, but doesn’t wrap as tightly around my body like the Boppy pillow does.  Having a c-section I found it to be uncomfortable at first to use my previous pillow, but the Bliss pillow was not uncomfortable at all.

Born free Bliss feeding pillow4  The three pillows are easily put together and taken apart with velcro tabs which fit easily through holes on the machine washable slip covers which they sell separately.  I received the Deluxe Slip Cover in White/Pink  ($29.99).

The deluxe cover features a quilted top with a detailed embroidery design. Slip cover is 100% cotton and snaps on and off for easy machine washing.

Overall I am really pleased with the Born Free Bliss Feeding Pillow, my only dislike is that it is quite large and bulky for storage but I guess that is a price you pay for comfort.

    I like that there are different options out there now, besides a boppy. I like the style of this one might be more comfortable!

    Another product I wish was around when my kids were babies (I bottle fed, but products like this that would have made it more comfortable may have swayed me) I’m passing this on to my mom’s expecting friend. Great finds thank you & I like that you show real pictures-it makes the posts so much better! :)

    Wow, it is so much bigger than I thought and how nice this is. My daughter would have loved something like this when she nursed her babies.

    It is so important for a tired, sleep deprived Mom to be comfortable when nursing her baby. This looks like it would be extremely helpful.
