Playmobil LogoDo you have a little rock star at your house?  I do.  My 6 year old Danica is obsessed with her mp3 player and uses just about everything she can find as a microphone.  She also has a play guitar she has had for several years that she plays with often.  I have a few very adorable performances on video.  PLAYMOBIL sent us their new PopStars! Stage (MSRP $39.99) to try out and my little rockstars love it!

Playmobil City Life PopStars Stage

I didn’t fully understand the features of the PopStars! Stage until we got it and it is very cool.

  • This MP3-compatible set allows young pop stars to belt out their favorite lyrics, drum up awesome beats, and wow crowds with radical guitar solos.
  • Just hook up an MP3 player with the enclosed cable and choose your favorite chart topper.
  • The set includes four figures, stage with flashing lights, drum set, two guitars with guitar stands, microphones, two preloaded tunes, built-in speakers, and other accessories.
  • Recommended for ages 4-10

The set comes with 2 preloaded songs which can be played by the stage itself, or you can use the enclosed cable to connect your own mp3 player (not included) and play music through speakers in the back of the stage.  With 2 flashing light options the kids could then play with the figures as they liked with their own tunes playing through the stage speakers.  The speakers have 2 volume settings.

There are 3 actual working flashing lights on either side of the stage back and then there are several other not real lights that can be moved around the stage.

All 3 of my older children love the stage even though they have great debates over who gets to be which character. (NO! I want the one with the hat!)   Overall they played with it very nicely.  The characters come dressed in adorable rockstar clothing with trendy haircuts.  They have guitar straps to keep the guitars in their hands and the drummer has a little stool he sits in.  The 3 microphones stay in their hands if they want to hold them or can be placed into the stands for the guitar players.  There are also 2 guitar stands which I thought was a very nice touch.

Playmobil City Life 22The drummer and drumset are adorable even including 2 standing cymbals and tiny little drumsticks for him to hold.

I did find it a little dissappointing that both guitars appear to be 6 string electric guitars and there is no bass guitar.  Most bands would have a bass guitarist.  I know this seems silly and nit-picky and my kids and I certainly don’t care, but if you were to give this to an actual musician they would certainly notice.  I also need to note that the speaker quality is not great.  Not terrible but I wouldn’t buy this as a means of having speakers to use for regular listening purposes for an mp3 player.

This is recommended for ages 4-10 and I must warn it comes with 70 pieces and some, such as the drumsticks and microphones, are VERY small.  Almost immediately we lost a microphone and a drumstick in the carpet.  We found them, but now I make the kids play with it at the table or on the hard floor.

This would be for my nephew for Christmas! My brother is blind and disability income makes it tough to have much extra for holidays. My family always pulls together to make sure their kids have a good Christmas.
