If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know that I’m a sucker for a cute hat. I just love them, especially crocheted ones. Unfortunately I’m unable to fully satisfy my need for hats that are so cute I can’t hardly stand it because, well, I have two little boys. That is a bit limiting, isn’t it?. The hat is very soft and since the flower is permanently secured to the hat, my sister doesn’t have to worry about Bella ripping it off or being annoyed by anything plastic or metal used to keep it attached. I have been very fortunate to work with Wilton on multiple occasions this past year. You may remember my first with the Wilton Yearbook or perhaps my fun Halloween baking review. But my very favorite so far was my review of Wilton UltraGold bakeware.  I love that my relationship with Wilton pushes me to try new things and to do more baking!

Wilton is has what you need to do anything and everything you can imagine in terms of baking.  From step by step instructions to a huge selections of baking essentials and fun gadgets, Wilton can help you achieve a scrumptious masterpiece. One of their amazing products I’ve had my eye on a while is their Dimensions Giant Cupcake Pan. And can you blame me? Cupcakes are sweet but GIANT ones are even sweeter. Who can honestly resist?

I thought a giant cupcake cake for my son Warren’s 2nd birthday would be perfect. The pan was simple to use and the cake came out great. I did need two cake mixes and had enough mix left over for about 10 cupcakes. I recommend keeping a close eye on the cake as it bakes. It was hard to know exactly how long to bake it since the instructions that came with the pan state to follow the directions on the box. The cake mix obviously doesn’t include baking times for giant cupcake pans so I conservatively estimated and kept checking it every few minutes after that.

Of course I couldn’t just keep it simple and decided I would grant the request of my husband to add a filling. I chose this strawberry cream filling recipe from Wilton. While that added step really became a labor of love it ended up working great.  The filling turned out a bit thinner than I thought would be ideal between the the top and bottom half of the cupcake so my mom (the most fabulous baker in the world) came to my rescue. Her advice was to add a little powdered sugar and it worked wonders! I cut out a hole in the center of the bottom portion of the cupcake and added some strawberry filling before replacing the  piece I cut and adding even more between the two layers.

I decorated the top with some creamy vanilla canned frosting using my Wilton Decorating Bag Kit that I purchased from my local Target.  I strongly suggest you read these fabulous decorating bag tips from Wilton if you are an inexperienced decorator like myself. I wish I would have before I started since I broke the cardinal rule and filled past the clearly marked “Do not fill past this line” warning. I did end up with frosting oozing out the end and all over my hands but it certainly didn’t show in the results.

I had planned on leaving the bottom bare but with the strawberry filling showing I thought it would look better if it appeared to have a white baking cup underneath so I frosted it as well. If I were to do it over again I would have made sure I purchased these jumbo confetti sprinkles for that something extra.

I stored it in the fridge before serving so it could firm up even more. While it may not be perfect, I am very happy with how it turned out. I had extra filling left over so I had some available in a dish for spooning over the cake after it was sliced. It was so refreshing! The filling really added something special and my husband even paid me the highest compliment ever. He asked for seconds on cake which trust me, never usually happens!

Being the novice decorator that I am, I am certainly unable to show you all the amazing things you can do with this pan. But of course Wilton can make you oooh and ahhhh with the stunning cakes below. If you want to wow them at a birthday party, this pan can certainly do that! Anyone who has read my previous Thomas reviews knows that my three year old son Lucian is a huge Thomas fan. Therefore, trying to get him to nail down a favorite episode was nearly impossible. He did however mention more than once that he was so happy to see Hiro again and of course he asks to watch it almost daily.

I personally enjoyed the lessons learned in Toby’s New Whistle. Toby is forced to use a new and different whistle while his old one was being fixed. He didn’t like the change and thought the whistle was much too loud.  Toby decided he wouldn’t use his whistle at all since he was too scared to even try.  Through a series of events Toby is forced to use it to help save his friends and it turns out that it would have only been possible with this new whistle. I love the lesson that change can sometimes be for the better.

He gets a little over zealous trying to help clean up and ultimately cleans up anything on the ground, including a shop’s outdoor display.

All of the stories use different angles to explain how we all can lend a helping hand from encouraging others, to cleaning up litter. I liked the message in the stories but I really loved how Kelly and Chica tied them all together in between episodes and explained how children could apply these lessons to everyday life.

Laundry is a chore that seems never-ending and rather cumbersome so I appreciate any related products that make the process just a little easier and less complicated. Purex has developed this ingenious Purex 3-in-1 Laundry Sheet which does the work of three products in one. It contains laundry detergent, fabric softener and anti-static, all in one handy dandy thin sheet. So I’ll bet it comes as no surprise that I jumped at the chance to try them out. How could I resist?

It really doesn’t get any easier than this. Simply start your washer, add the sheet and then add your laundry. The detergent will magically be added to your wash. When the wash cycle is finished you can add the sheet to your dryer with the rest of your laundry and the heat will activate the fabric softener and anti-static strip.

After using this on multiple washes I couldn’t tell a difference in the cleanliness of my clothes or the softness when they came out of the dryer. I did notice however how easy they were to use.

My laundry room is already a mess. I have multiple bottles of detergent, liquid fabric softener and boxes of fabric sheets. I have virtually no shelving with which to speak  so my bottles end up on the floor. I purposely to do not buy the over-sized bottles of liquid laundry detergent because I hate trying to pick up and pour out of a bottle that gives me a workout. And even so I’m a bit messy when I pour. I also always have the nice soap residue sprinkled with lint around the top of the washing machine. Don’t let the picture above fool you. I’m creative enough to take a shot that would exclude this embarrassment.

These sheets eliminate all those problems. No more lugging heavy bottles in from our van, no more measuring, no more residue and no possible way my husband could screw it up if he actually did a load of laundry. (Not that I’m holding my breath on that one…)

When I think of frozen seafood products, I think of Gorton’s. Since having children we always have a huge 115 count bag of Extra Crunchy Breaded Fish Sticks from Sam’s Club sitting in our freezer. (Which are a fabulous value by the way so go buy yourself a bag!) It is the only kind of fish stick we’ve tried that doesn’t end up mushy and we just love that crunchy breading!

Since my husband and I adore  seafood I was excited to work with Gorton’s and try out some of their other products. I immediately seized the opportunity to try their Shrimp Scampi. Both my husband and I love shrimp and who can resist a yummy garlic sauce?

I decided to keep it simple and follow the suggestion on the box to serve it over a bed of noodles. With just a simple box of spaghetti and Gorton’s Shrimp Scampi we created what tasted like a gourmet meal.  It was cinch to prepare by simply sauteing the shrimp and boiling the spaghetti. With the built in garlic butter sauce it created a savory meal with very little effort on my part.  Both my husband and I can’t wait to try it again (and again and again….).

The package contains three servings and I think that is about right, although my husband and I finished it completely and we were more than satisfied.  With 120 calories and 6 grams of fat per serving it isn’t damaging to your waistline despite it feeling like a splurge.

I’ve had the chance to work with Creativity for Kids on multiple occasions and the response has always been fantastic.  It seems that everyone is always jumping at the chance to have more fun craft and art projects with their kids and who can blame them? Anything that entertains and fosters creativity in my boys is a winner with me. This time I got the chance to test out the Young Artist Texture Painting Set from Faber-Castell which retails for $17.99.

Experience the joy of creative artistic expression. This 12 piece set has everything you need to experiment with color, texture, paint and patterns. Includes 5 colors of washable tempera paint, 5 texture tools, paint tray and 20 sheets of paper. And, a fully illustrated instruction guide that includes paint mixing chart, tips and techniques.

Just looking at the package, doesn’t it look like fun? While my boys are younger than the recommended age of 5 and up it didn’t stop them from having a blast with this set. I did however have to monitor them closely while they painted to avoid color mixing and to make sure that they didn’t paint anything they shouldn’t.

This paint set features many fun shaped texture brushes which go beyond the ordinary and allow your child to create something unique with little effort. I think this would be a great compliment to a regular paint set so you could mix the two together. The set includes everything you need to create and I found it very helpful to have paper already included. The brushes clean up easily with cold water and dry fairly quickly.  Adding a little water is recommended to stretch the amount of paint so it isn’t necessary to let the brushes dry before you can use them again.

My only suggestion would be to have multiple containers available so several colors are available at once. Only one paint tray is included and given the size of the brushes it would be hard to mix more than two at a time. With the ages of my boys I could only do one color in the tray to avoid cross mixing. With five brushes available it would have been handy to have five containers. This can easily be done with disposable containers or cups you may have lying around the house.

The packaging on any product can be the first thing that catches are eye in  a sea of the products we are bombarded with every day. I love it when I find something that surprises me and actually looks good  on display. Have you see these new Dentyne bottles that are anything but ordinary?

Dentyne premium badge edition bottle are available in twelve eye catching limited edition designs in Peppermint, Spearmint and Arctic Chill flavors.  These fun and edgy designs were created by apparel, skateboard and snowboard artist Anthony Yankovic. The gum is the same (why mess with a good thing right?) but the bottles certainly are not.

If you haven’t had a chance to try out these bottles we find them quite handy in my house. We placed the Peppermint version on our mantel and appreciated just how easy it was to walk by and snag a piece of gum. I also like that it didn’t completely look out of place either!

Shaun the Sheep is back at it again with more great adventures in Shaun The Sheep: A Woolly Good Time, set to  hit stores on Tuesday, February 16th. You may have seen this fun series as 5 minutes shorts on the Disney Channel but full length episodes of this International Emmy Award winner can only be found on DVDs.

Episodes Include:

• “Washday” – When the Farmer leaves, the sheep have loads of fun playing with his newly washed clothes hung out to dry. Quick! How to clean up the dirty garments before he returns?
• “Tooth Fairy” – Bitzer gets a terrible toothache and Shaun takes the job as dentist hoping to help his friend and remove the painful tooth.  But after several creative and hilarious attempts at extraction it’s off to the vet for success!  But will the Tooth Fairy still visit Bitzer?
• “The Farmer’s Niece” – The Farmer’s naughty niece comes for a visit and Bitzer and the fearless flock have to put up with her silly antics.
• “Snore-Worn Shaun” – What can Shaun do to stop Shirley’s snoring? Nothing works so he and the flock decide to get her out of the barn with hilarious results!
• “Helping Hound” – Farmer and Bitzer are fed up with the naughty sheep and hope a robotic dog will keep them in line.  But there’s mayhem in the meadow when he turns out to be stricter than Bitzer!
• “Big Top Timmy” – The sheep awake to find Timmy gone! The search is on and he’s found at a nearby circus.  Can Shaun and the fearless flock rescue him and return to the barn before the Farmer finds out.

While not all that educational, this DVD is a riot! Both my kids absolutely love Shaun the Sheep but even my husband and I get excited when we get a new DVD from this series and look forward to watching it with the kids.  We love the simple humor and giggle at the silly antics. It is impossible to resist. With no talking, everything is done with actions and sounds to the signature Shaun the Sheep music.

In this DVD I found Tooth Fairy and Snore-Worn Shaun to be my absolute favorites, both of which involve the extremely overweight sheep, Shirley that is always a bit clumsy and difficult to control. The lengths that poor Shaun went through to try and drown out Shirley’s snoring and eventually trying to remove her from the barn entirely were a crack up!

I highly recommend all the Shaun the Sheep DVDS and you don’t have to take just my word for it. Look at the glowing reviews on Amazon and you’ll understand why this show is an award winner!

Last April I showed you some unique personalized gifts from Frecklebox which included a My Name Is book review among other fabulous options. Since that time they’ve added some fun new products including their newest book, Big Heart which debuted just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Let’s face it. Potty training for most children doesn’t happen overnight. I know as my three year old son Lucian has been sorta, almost but not quite potty trained for many months now.  (If only I could get him to go number 2 on the potty!) I’m always up for ways to get him excited about the potty again since the novelty has worn off.

Scholastic has two adorable new books that feature a step-by-step story for both boys and girls.  Pirate Potty is a pirate themed toilet training book and will have you talking like a pirate and even mimicking his parrot side kick.  The potty in the book even features an x marking the spot at the bottom of the toilet! Princess Potty is along the same lines and will have you going “Here ye, Here ye” and of course she uses a royal throne for her royal business.

Each of these books has a fun reward system included. Pirate Potty features a pirate hat with various coordinating stickers such as coins, ships and swords.  Princess Potty has a tiara with sparkling jewel stickers just waiting to be added!

This has become Lucian’s favorite book overnight. Seriously. I asked him the other day what his favorite book was and he chose Pirate Potty. I had only read it to him once the day before but apparently it took. Now he is asking for me to read it to him during the day and wants it to be the book he takes to bed to settle down for the night. I think his favorite part is when I squawk like the parrot and talk like a pirate. I’ve even begun to add extra parrot lines because it makes him giggle. I also like that it isn’t too terribly long or short at 24 pages. The pages are very sturdy and given the subject matter I see this book perfect for a two to four year old.

This is a very inexpensive way to get your child interested in the potty and the reward system that is included is very fun and helpful. At only $5.99 these books are a great value!

This past Christmas I had the pleasure of showing you some of Hallmark’s newest products including the Recordable Storybook which was a huge hit and sold out coast to coast. Earlier in the year I shared with you their Edge of Motherhood cards, celebrating the joys of motherhood and all the humor required for the job. Now I’m excited to tell you about their newest greeting card creation, the webcam greetings.

Webcam greetings are like no other greeting card you’ve seen before. While they look and feel like regular card they have a special bonus for the recipient! We got the chance to review two Valentine’s Day webcam greetings and were blown away by the originality and certainly appreciated the affordability.  I did have troubles getting the software to recognize our built in webcam on our smaller laptop in Firefox but my husband is a genius and suggested we try Internet Explorer. Good thing I married him or I wouldn’t have been able to view hoops & yoyo being annoyingly cute yet irresistible as they jumped on screen.

I’m sure it is no surprise that my kids both were fascinated and mesmerized by these cards and wanted to watch them over and over. Can you blame them? These are totally  fun and completely different than anything I’ve seen. I think they would be a great way to put a smile on anyone’s face this Valentine’s Day without having to spend a lot in the process!

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to think of new and inventive ways to spice up your love life (or lack thereof). Let’s face it, once kids are thrown into the relationship, finding some quality alone time is tough. To top it off, most of us are simply too tired by the end of the day to even consider doing something creative in bed.

That is why I agreed to step out of the box. Be a little bold and frankly just a little bit naughty and agree to doing a review for Eden Fantasys. I didn’t go the easy route and pick a scented candle or some sensual massage oil (although both of those are available). No, that would be a tad bit boring and I’m sick of being boring. So I chose the Bnaughty Deluxe from BSwish. Because you know, I want to BE naughty. Perfect.

I have to say the very first thing that attracted me to this bad boy was just how innocent it looks. How easy would it be to explain this one away if you child comes running out with it and shows it to your guests? It looks just like some kind of cool computer mouse so they don’t have to know how naughty you really are.

The Bnaughty Deluxe is not only waterproof and extremely quiet, it has many settings to play around with to your heart’s content. Equipped with seven functions, you can utilize vibration, pulsation and escalation, all with different levels of intensity. This bullet is great for foreplay with your partner or some special quality time with yourself.

Now that I’ve tested it out I’m one mama in a much better mood. All I can say is W-O-W-S-A. (Is that even a word?) And while I usually get more descriptive in my reviews and include photos, those are details I’m keeping ALL to myself on this one!
